Our Background

Duane Trouchet is the principal guide and part owner with his father, Greg. They have lived and fished in the Territory since 1980. After Duane graduated from his schooling he sought work in the marine/fishing industry. He secured work as an apprentice Outboard Technician and graduated in 1993. He has been fishing and guiding since then and in 1995 together with Greg they started D.N.A. Barra Fishing.

D.N.A. Barra Fishing is a fully accredited and licensed Tour Fishing Operator.

What Type Of Fishing Do They Cater For?

DNA Barra Fishing is one of the few operators licensed to fish in Kakadu National Park. We specialise in barramundi fishing at South and East Alligator Rivers and all other Kakadu waterways and billabongs. We offer fishing in the famous Mary River system, including Shady Camp, Corroboree Billabong, Hardy’s Billabong, Daly River and the Adelaide River region. We also fish various estuaries in and around Darwin. Some of the species targeted are Barramundi, Black Jewfish, Threadfin and Blue Salmon, Golden Snapper, Giant Trevally, Queenfish, Rock Cod and Mangrove Jacks.

How Long Are the Trips Usually For?

DNA Barra Fishing specialise in full-day or extended overnighters. Our extended trips usually range from two to seven days. We can vary our trips to meet the needs of individual fishermen or groups. All Kakadu trips are two or more days due to travel time.

What Do I Have To Take?

A hat, sunscreen, personal insect repellent, cameras, light comfortable clothing and any personal medication you may require. We supply all your fishing needs including G-Loomis rods, Shimano reels and braided lines. Fly gear is not provided. All tackle is to be replaced if broken or lost. We supply ice cold water, soft drinks, morning tea and lunch. Lunch is a selection of cold meats and salad or our famous barramundi and salad BBQ cooked on board. We also provide seasonal fresh fruit and cake. No alcohol is provided but individuals may bring their own.

Will I Be Comfortable?

Our clientele comment favourably on our efforts to provide comfort! You are collected and returned in air-conditioned luxury 80 and 100 Series Toyota Landcruisers. You fish from our modern, eco friendly four stroke, custom built Barra boats with swivel seating and shade canopies. Overnighters sleep in motel style accommodation. When in Kakadu we stay at Aurora Kakadu Village – 4 star. After a long day fishing, relax in the pool or the comfort of your air-conditioned room. All safety equipment is provided including fire extinguisher, satellite phone and EPIRB.

How Many People Go In Each Group?

Our boats cater for four fisherman and our guide. Larger groups can be catered for by the use of mutliple boats and additional guides. Allow us to plan your trips whether for smaller or larger groups.

Will I See Wildlife Or The Sights Of Kakadu?

Our experienced tour guides will point out the flora and fauna highlights including crocodiles, wild pigs, buffaloes, jabirus, brolgas, wedge tail eagles, sea eagles, water lillies and much more. Our guides will stop for photo or filming opportunities in our stable boats. They will also point out features of the famous Kakadu National Park.

How Experienced Is My Guide?

Our guides are NT licensed and accredited Fishing Tour Operators. They have experience in catering for all age groups and making your trip a special event. We have experience with overseas visitors and corporate and R & R trips. We are also trained in first aid and are well praticed in meeting the needs of individuals. Our gear is maintained at a very high standard as our owner/operator/guide is also a qualified outboard motor technician.
